Our church nursery is starting to grow like crazy and I had to come up with a new and easier security/name tag solution. I really did not find anything out there, so I am posting what I came up with.
This is a blue clear pocketed calendar from www.Orientaltrading.com for about $15. The clear pockets allows easy access to the name tags and I can see the names clearly!
You will also need clear plastic id badge sleeves, spiral key rings, and badge Id clips. I got mine at Walmart. So much cheaper than Office Max or Office Depot!
Spiral key ring bracelets. These will be attached to a id badge sleeve and be used as the security number tags(matches the number for their child) that are given to the parents. They can easily wear on their wrist, and will have to present it to pick up their child.
Badge Id clips. These will clip to the badge id sleeves for the the name tag that will clip easily onto a child's shirt(no pins). And make another name tag/id number badge to clip on the diaper bags.
I finished it off by printing off the name of our nursery, church and age and slipped it into where the day of the month would be. There are hook holes at the top, so I used medium size 3M hooks to adhere to the wall. Each pocket is large enough to hold all three badges of id's: Name tag, security bracelet, and diaper badge. I had to go every other row so it didn't look crowded, but it fit everyone!
Hope this is easy for your nursery workers to help keep your children safe and allow the parents to see how organized the security procedures are so they feel their children are well cared for!
Have a blessed day!!!
Thank you for this! I am looking at making a similar system at my church. Could you please post the link to the exact calendar you used at oriental trading? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Oriental Trading may be out of the item right now..here is another website that carries the same item

Or if you have a local teachers store they should carry it too! Hope that helps! Thanks ;)

ReplyDeleteHow do handle visitors? Do you have blanks to write visitors names on?
ReplyDeleteI have the regulars have an id# starting at 100, 101, ect. The visitors have ID Parent security wrist bands starting at 300, 301, ect. Then I write the corresponding # on a sticky label along with the child's name.

ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm always excited to find other nursery coordinators online and get ideas. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteHey, I was just wondering if the children pull off their name tags, our church is looking into the same kind of system only with those tryvek wristbands. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks so much! This is the most helpful thing I have found!
Thank you for your question! Yes, the kids will gravitate towards the name tags, so you will have to position it higher than their little hands. The wrist bands are perfect for the parents, but the clips for the diaper bags, so you know who's is who's and to clip on the names of the children is helpful too. I don't think there is a perfect solution, but this has been helpful for our church and hope for yours too! Have a blessed week!
Deletewhat size are the pockets? will they hold a 3x4 name tag?
